{PROCESS} Paper Cut – From Idea to Reality

19 Mar

I have been having a ball over recent months playing with my cutting machine. Those who know me will be aware that I always want to find the most complicated thing to do and make it perfect, lol! Well, I discovered paper cutting quite a while ago but because my eyesight is suffering (yes, OK, I admit it I am getting older!) and frankly, it’s not safe for me to wield a very sharp knife, I really couldn’t get into it … And then I discovered cutting machines that are compatible with my PC and a whole new world opened up!!

I love my computer and the design programmes I have on it, so to find a way to make this work for paper cuts was a huge bonus.

Anyway, my paper cuts have been very popular so I wanted to share with you all the process behind the product.

So we are going to look at my new Family Tree paper cut. Continue reading

Recycled Jar Candles | Inspiration

11 Mar

Last week one of my customers brought some empty coffee jars around for me to fill with wax and turn into candles. She lives in a house which is entered via a set of outdoor stairs and was looking for a romantic way to light them up when she expects visitors.Using your old jam, coffee, pasta sauce jars, etc is a fantastic and affordable way to turn any outdoor space into a rustic and romantic area. If you don’t want to find a chandler to make the candles why not just pop a tealight into the jar.

Recycle your old jars.

Dress up the jar with pretty papers and materials (making sure they’re well away from the flame!!) and you have a simple yet stylish candle display. You could also add wire and hang them from tree branches … the options are endless.

It’s Beginning to Smell a lot Like Christmas! – Christmas Candles, Gift Boxes and Tags

31 Oct

It’s all heads down, bums up at Just Jane HQ at the moment. Why? Well Christmas is coming and that means lots of markets to get ready for. And even though I had plans in place fairly early on – in August in fact – I still am not ready and the first market is in two days O.M.G!

Soooo, where to start? Well, way back in August (maybe even July) I found these great coloured jars and just knew they would be perfect for my Christmas candle range. Then I had to test them to make sure they were suitable for use as candles and to find out what size wicks worked best, etc – you can never do too much testing as a candle maker šŸ™‚ The great thing about these jars is that they will be fab for re-usingĀ in most rooms of the house – see below for a little bath salt recipe. I wanted to make them attractive as gifts on their own so added some handmade gift tags which include my labelling and I’m thinking about adding a little handmade polymer clay charm to each as well – not sure how I’ll be fixed for time on that one though. So here’s the almost finished product. Continue reading
